Discussing 9/11 With Your Students

Overview

Homeschooling families are encouraged to discuss the events of 9/11 with their students. Below is a list of book options for families based on the student's grade level. Note that the books may contain mature content based on the events being discussed.

Primary School (Grades PreK-2)

September 11th Attacks by Christopher Forest - Discusses the causes, events, and effects. It has a reading guide with questions for parents. This Very Tree by Sean Rubin - A tree that witnessed the attack and regrew along with the area.

Elementary School (Grades 3-5)

America Is Under Attack - September 11, 2001: The Day the Towers Fell: Actual Times Series, Book 4 by Don Brown - A narrative recounting of the day's events. National Geographic Kids: September 11 by Libby Romero - Focuses on the events, causes, and heroes. What Were the Twin Towers? by Jim O'Connor and Ted Hammond - Details what the Twin Towers were and why they were targeted.

Middle School (Grades 6-8)

September 11, 2001 by Helga Schier - An informative account of the events.

High School (Grades 9-12)

The 9/11 Commission Report: Final Report of the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States - An informative account of the events.
